Women Walking : Facing West

  • Mandy Bishop Foothills of Boulder Boulder, CO (map)

Please bring strange things.

Please come bringing new things.

Let very old things come into your hands.

Let what you do not know come into your eyes.

Let desert sand harden your feet.

Let the arch of your feet be the mountains.

Let the paths of your fingertips be your maps and the ways you go be the lines on your palms.

Let there be deep snow in your inbreathing and your out breath be the shining of ice.

May your mouth contain the shapes of strange words.

May you smell food cooking you have not eaten.

May the spring of a foreign river be your navel.

May your soul be at home where there are no houses.

Walk carefully, well loved one.

Walk mindfully, well loved one.

Walk fearlessly, well loved one.

Return with us, return to us.

Be always coming home.

The Medicine Wheel is an ancient way people from all different walks of life have mapped out time, seasons and phases of growth. It is a map of the four directions, each of which have special qualities. Each direction is associated with a color, a rhythm, a season, a time of day, a phase of a person’s life. Each are kept by different plant and animal allies. Each have messages for us and lessons to teach.

Join in this circle of women as we walk into the West direction. We’ll work with the medicine wheel learning what this direction has to teach us, walking together into the wild of the land and ourselves, and coming together in story and council to gather up the wisdom we need to carry into this season.

Mandy’s skillful guidance and nurturing presence are unavoidably healing to be around. Through her eyes, the forests and stones speak clearly and truth emerges easily. She is a healer in every way, and I feel so grateful to have walked alongside her.
